WITHOUT A DOUBT, SHE’S LEAVING HER MARK

Geraldine Morano, Impact Academy
College: California State University, Sacramento

Geraldine is Impact Academy’s 2019 winner of the Jackie Robinson Scholarship Award.

Geraldine has stepped quietly and steadily along the path to success, distinguished especially by her personal integrity, both inside and outside of the classroom. The quietness of her stride is not indicative, though, of the power of her presence. She has fearlessly incorporated her family’s immigration story into the classroom on numerous occasions, adding authenticity to her own learning and to the learning of her peers. With the highest expectations for herself and those around her, she has led by example throughout her high school career, contributing to Impact’s leadership organization as well as MEChA. She is a fixture at events on and off campus, personifying commitment to her own community and beyond. Next year, we know that Geraldine will continue to find ways to make her mark on her community at California State University, Sacramento. She is truly deserving of this recognition and award.

ABOUT THE JACKIE ROBINSON SCHOLARSHIP
Each year, the Jackie Robinson Scholarship Award of $1000 is given to one graduate from each Envision school who exemplifies Jackie Robinson’s commitment to service and excellence.  Mr. Robinson did more than break the color barrier in Major League Baseball: he was also the first in his family to graduate from college; he served his country in World War II; and he worked as a powerful civil rights advocate.  To be awarded this scholarship, students must:

  • Be first in their family to go to college;
  • Deliver an outstanding graduation Portfolio and Defense;
  • Exemplify a commitment to service and leadership;
  • Plan on attending a 4-year college or university in the fall after graduation.
