Our own Kris-Shawn Chapman-Robinson, a rising senior at Impact Academy, featured on stage at a Bay Area event and Hamilton Performance!
This past Spring, students at all of our high schools received FREE tickets to the sold out Hamilton production at the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco. The tickets came to us via the Gilder Lehrman Historical Society’s education program. Our students completed a mini unit on Alexander Hamilton and the development of the popular musical, and then discussed how primary sources can inform performance art. Each student then created a three-minute poem, rap, skit, song, or play — based on primary sources — that they also performed in class. Every student who completed the assignment received a free ticket to the show, and a few lucky students were invited on stage to perform their pieces!
It was an inspirational, once in a lifetime opportunity for students and teachers alike, and we incredibly grateful we got to experience this national treasure. MANY THANKS to the Gilder Lehrman Historical Society for this amazing opportunity!
And GO SHAWN!
